Dallas Freelancers Union SPARK Hosts “Holiday Office Party for the Office-less” With New Venue Partner: WeWork Thanksgiving Tower

(Dallas, Texas: December 4) -- Dallas Freelancers Union SPARK is hosting its first annual holiday party dubbed the “Holiday Office Party for the Office-less” Friday, December 7, 2018. Dallas Freelancers Union SPARK will be providing the office-like atmosphere that freelancers don’t always have the opportunity to experience being self-employed, but, of course, we’re going to make it fun. SPARK launched with the commitment to not only offer a common space to share the tools of success in the freelancing scene, but to also help local freelancers cultivate a a fulfilling lifestyle and career path. From this, the “Holiday Office Party for the Office-less” was born as a way to encourage positive morale for those within the Dallas freelance community.

The inaugural holiday party will be hosted at WeWork Thanksgiving Tower, who has onboarded as a 2019 venue partner.  All 2019 SPARK workshops will be hosted here the first Wednesday of every month.

"I'm currently a WeWork Thanksgiving Tower member and my decision to host our 2019 events here was due to wanting to change up the environment,” stated Shawnee Leonard, Dallas Freelancers Union SPARK Lead Organizer. “My goal is to partner with a different co-working space (or another non-traditional venue) every year to expand our reach & promote more awareness regarding our organization. WeWork Thanksgiving Tower is a beautiful space, and with the numerous community events they host on a weekly basis, I am confident that our attendance will go up significantly.”

Being that WeWork is known for offering coworking and office spaces to a wide range of startups and freelancers working in varied industries, it made sense for Dallas Freelancers Union SPARK  to partner with them in attempts to reach a broader freelance demographic. WeWork has a significant presence in the freelance community and will undoubtedly become an invaluable resource with SPARK’s new initiative.

About Freelancers Union
Freelancers Union is the largest and fastest-growing organization representing the 57 million independent workers across the country. We give our 375,000+ members a powerful voice through policy advocacy, benefits, and community. Membership is free and open to freelancers of all kinds, from graphic designers to contractors to entrepreneurs to moonlighters. Freelancers Union was founded by Sara Horowitz in 1995. In 2008, we launched Freelancers Insurance Company, the first portable benefits model for freelancers, providing independent workers with high-quality, affordable, and portable health insurance. The union’s National Benefits Platform, launched in 2014, helps freelancers across America access benefits, including retirement, life, liability, dental, and disability insurance. Since its founding, Freelancers Union has fought for and won protections for freelance workers, including Unincorporated Business Tax reform and successfully advocating for new models for healthcare. In 2016, Freelancers Union led a victorious campaign to enact first-of-its-kind legislation in New York City giving freelancers unprecedented protections from non-payment. Caitlin Pearce was named Executive Director in 2018.

SPARK is the community aspect of Freelancers Union and the local hub for freelancers to connect with one another and help cultivate a freelancer community in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. We host monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of every month for freelancers to discuss various topics such as starting a freelance business, growing a current freelance business, pricing, taxes, legal stuff, and more!
